2005-2008
Studied music at Goldsmiths College, University of London gaining a 2:1 bachelor of music degree. Played in the College Sinfonia before beginning voice lessons with Nan Christie. Performed in OperaGold production of Die Zauberflöte playing the ‘pivotal’ role of the Second Armed Man. Subsequently performed the baritone roles of Morales (Carmen), Hobson (Peter Grimes) and Antonio (Le Nozze de Figaro) for OperaGold. Conducted Benjamin Britten’s Hymn to the Virgin with the Goldsmiths Chamber Choir.
Joined the London Philharmonic Choir and BBC Symphony Chorus under the direction of Stephen Jackson, performing in many concerts including the world premiere of A Handshake in the Dark by Michael Nyman, the 2007 Prom season performing Richard Rodney Bennetts’ new choral pieces Four Poems of Thomas Campion (televised on BBC) and John Tavener’s Beautiful Names commissioned by the Prince of Wales, which subsequently toured to Istanbul. As a member of the London Philharmonic Choir, sung under distinguished conductors such as, Daniele Gatti, Kurt Masur, Vladimir Jurowski, Yan Pascal Tortelier and Jiri Belohlavek.
Continues to sing baritone until a masterclass with Rosalind Plowright, who insists he is a tenor. Subsequently takes the role of Spoletta in Greenwich Park Opera’s concert performance of Tosca. Meets tenor Gediminas Varna who confirms Plowright suspicions and with Telman Guzhevsky begins teaching Jonathan.
Sings final recital at Deptford Town Hall performing Old American Songs (Set One) by Aaron Copland and a selection of Brahms lieder.
